Crime does not always pay

Caught after breaking in to a house in Stafford Street Westdene on Friday
afternoon 27 Jan. around 16h30, two suspects were apprehended by
Col. Mohale from the detective unit of Sophiatown Police Station
after a rapid response to the incident.

The thieves had broken into a house and made off with items
including camera equipment and a laptop computer by crossing
through a number of properties to emerge in Seymore Street.
Luck was not on their side when a worker in street who had
seen them was able inform Col. Mohale to the fact that
they had boarded a taxi. By this time the streets in
the area and the park around Westdene Dam were being
searched by a large number of responders to the incident.
This included SAPS units from Sophiatown Police Station,
ADT and members of the Westdene Security Association.

Col. Mohale drove along the taxi route and spotted
suspicious behavior of the individuals having been
given an accurate description by local resident
Natasha Springfield whose property they passed through.
Because of the community working together with SAPS,
security companies and the Westdene Security Association,
rapid arrest was the reward these criminals earned.

Garden Refuse Chaos
Written by Mark Napier
Friday, 27 January 2012

After returning from holiday I drove to our local dump site only

to find that the entrance is closed up. I phoned Pickitup headquarters

and got through to Lesedi Molefi who explained the situation to me.

The owners of the site have terminated Pickitup's access

presumably because they want to go ahead with their development.

The property owners have allocated Pickitup another position

lower down on the property near the high school where a new

garden refuse site will be properly developed with a concrete

base. She said this could take up to two years because of the

processes involved such as the environmental assessment.

She said that the issue was publicized in the local media but

I notice that many people have dumped refuse and rubble

there and it looks like a potential health hazard to me.

The nearest site for us appears to be the Bellona garden

refuse site in Mafair West. This is behind the Garden City

Clinic in Bellona Road.

Hi Peter

A dark charcoal grey VW polo 1.6 2011 was stolen from in front of my house no61A 4th Ave Today between 12:30 and 16:00.

The car had an immobilizer, interior motion sensor and was completely locked up.

Earlier in the day friends of ours interrupted two African men attempting to steal a Polo a few blocks away. They  were in a white Golf GTI.
